Ser Natureza Project in the Cana Brava River Basin

In 2024, Serra Verde made significant progress in environmental conservation through the Ser Natureza Project. Activities began in April with the planting of 310 native seedlings of various species at Fazenda Cristo Rei, owned by Mr Jefferson Fernandes. The restored and fenced spring is part of the Cana Brava River Basin, the project’s primary focus.

Over the year, efforts intensified. On 6 December, the 2024 cycle was concluded with the planting of 150 additional native seedlings and the fencing of 10 more springs. This final stage included the participation of 30 students from João Figueira Municipal School (Cana Brava District), fostering community engagement and highlighting the importance of environmental education.

Since the beginning of the initiative, over 80 springs have already been restored, showing its positive impact on regional water conservation. The Ser Natureza Project is an initiative by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Goiás, supported by partners such as Engie Brasil Energia, the Municipal Environmental Department, and other key local stakeholders.

Mr Gessé Barros, owner of Fazenda Holanda, was one of the project’s beneficiaries and shared his experience: “I took part in the Ser Natureza Project and have already seen results—my spring hasn’t dried up, the area was reforested, and this brings many benefits to our region.”

This initiative goes far beyond environmental conservation. Through collective action, everyone involved is helping build a legacy for future generations, protecting our rivers and reinforcing the municipality’s long-term sustainability.
