Our Leadership

Ricardo Grossi

President and COO
Ricardo Grossi, the COO of Mineração Serra Verde, is a Mining Engineer with 22 years of experience.

Ricardo Grossi has particular expertise in the management and operation of concentration and pelletizing plants, ore pipelines and cargo terminals. He was previously General Manager at Anglo Brazil, where he led operations at Minas Rio.

Throughout his career Ricardo Grossi has participated in national and international technical missions to assist customers and was responsible for product development processes as well as short and long-term strategic planning. His responsibilities have also included government relations as well as the management of environmental licensing processes.

Ricardo Grossi spent 16 years at Vale in different leadership positions, having been closely involved in the implementation of the Vargem Grande complex. Before joining SVPM, he served as COO at Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN).

He also holds a postgraduate degree in Entrepreneurship and Industrial Management.

Pedro burnier

ESG, Strategy & Corporate Affairs
Pedro Burnier has more than 20 years experience working for some of Brazil’s largest companies.

Pedro has a detailed understanding of environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) matters with particular expertise in health, safety, risk and quality issues and processes in large companies and projects. He has worked in the mining, steel, energy, renewable energy and agroforestry sectors for companies such as BHP Brazil (Samarco & Renova), Ausenco and ArcelorMittal.

Pedro was a member of the Board Committees of the Renova Foundation and Samarco, advising on the design and implementation of environmental remediation measures as well as for monitoring health and safety performance and adopting best practices.

He also has detailed, practical experience of implementing certified management systems (ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18000) at several organisations.

He holds a master’s degree in Sustainability and Renewable Energy from the University of South Florida and an MBA from Fundação Getúlio Vargas.

júlio tôrres

Director of Operations
Júlio has worked for more than 35 years in the mine maintenance, operation and projects development.

He began his career at Samarco Mineração where he held roles including Head of the Pelletizing Plant Department and Maintenance Manager of the Germano Mine.

Also at Samarco, he was Project Coordinator and General Manager of Project Implementation for over 15 years and led projects worth more than US$ 4 billion.

Subsequently, at Anglo American, he worked as General Manager of Maintenance and Engineering, before joining Mineração Serra Verde in 2023.

Júlio Tôrres holds a degree in Electrical Engineering and an MBA in Business Administration from Fundação Dom Cabral.

Our Workforce

Our local community has a tradition of working in mining over many generations. We employ approximately 1,000 people (full time staff and contractors) at our operation. More than 28% of our workforce is women and, as our operations expand, we aim to continue to attract a diverse workforce from our local area of Minaçu. Read more
